Homefirst Recognizes Six Westfield Children for Local Philanthropy

On August 31st, six children ages 8 - 11 hosted a lemonade stand. This typical summer event has become much more than holding signs, flagging down cars and selling lemonade. Today, children choose local nonprofits to benefit from the day’s proceeds and show that philanthropy begins earlier than ever.

Meghan Johnson asked her sister Kate and their friends, Daniel Carminio and siblings Aiden and Catherine Orr, to spend the day together doing good for others. Showing compassion and helping humanity begins at home, and Meghan and Kate see it first-hand. Their mother, Bernadette Murphy, is a long-time volunteer and the group of six chose Homefirst, a local organization to benefit from their lemonade stand.

What makes these children so amazing? That they recognize that no further than five miles from their home, life can be very different for someone their age. They and their parents are to be thanked for showing that a sharing and giving spirit knows no age, and that compassion and thoughtfulness make any gift seem large.

** Homefirst delivers comprehensive solutions to homelessness by providing transitional and permanent housing, homeless  prevention assistance and social services to strengthen families and build communities.
