Homefirst Offers Free Tax Preparation to Residents and Seniors with Low Income

Homefirst’s Family Support Center is offering appointments for FREE income tax return preparation to Union County area residents and seniors with incomes up to $59,000 through a partnership with HOPES CAP’s VITA Program. Beginning February 6th and running through April 10th, IRS certified volunteer tax preparers will complete tax returns at Homefirst’s Family Support Center located at 905 Watchung Avenue, Plainfield, NJ 07060.

In addition to free tax return preparation Homefirst’s Family Support Center offers all participants educational opportunities to increase and/or gain financial literacy skills to better manage their personal finances, including monthly budgeting, savings and long-term asset creation.
It is important for the accuracy and completeness of the 2012 tax return that the taxpayers bring all 2012 federal and New Jersey tax forms and a copy of the 2011 federal and state returns. Required documents: The IRS requires that you present a photo ID before we can begin preparing your taxes. Also required are Social Security Cards or comparable documentation for you, your spouse and dependents. In the case of taxpayers filing joint returns, both taxpayers should be present to authorize the electronic filing.
