Hit and Run Driver Kills Maplewood Man

MAPLEWOOD, NJ -- A hit-and-run driver killed a Maplewood man as he changed a flat tire Sunday night, police said.
Douglas Hodgson, 47, was struck and killed close to Routes 1 and 9 South, near the Pulaski Skyway in Newark at approximately 11:45 p.m., according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hodgson was on his way home from New York City when he pulled his Lexus onto the hard shoulder.
Detectives said the motor vehicle that struck him appears to have been a 1998 white Acura CL, two-door. Unless the car has been repaired, it will display damage to the passenger side mirror, front fender and a missing parking light from the front passenger bumper.
