WEST ORANGE, NJ- The Third Grade team of the newly formed Hilltoppers Heat, a local Basketball organization offering AAU/USBA Basketball League for boys in grades 3-8, won their Division this weekend in the Bergen County Holiday Tournament. Formed in 2011 with boys in grades 5-8, Hilltoppers Heat began league play with 5-8 graders and added a Fourth Grade team in Spring, 2012, and the Third Grade team this fall.  The 3rd grade team, consisting of 8 and 9 year old boys, mainly from West Orange and surrounding towns, are 4 – 3 with all games played against 4thgrade teams.

This week’s tournament win validated not only the boys but the coaches and program.  Hilltoppers Heat is not just a basketball organization, but a program to help young boys grow in to strong young men. Tryouts are required for acceptance and the players are the best of the best around Essex County. Players must sign a ‘Player's Agreement’ which includes a commitment to responsibility, hard work, sportsmanship, and good grades.

The hardworking Coaches and players played three games this Saturday, the first one at 9:30 am in the Hoop Heaven League for 4th graders, followed by two back to back games against two of the Ridgewood Goats 4th grade teams in the Holiday Shootout in Bergen County. The first team were tough opponents, but at 8 seconds left and down one point, Hilltoppers number 3, Elliot Cadeau of West Orange, brought the heat and scored. With the score at 21 – 20 and 2 seconds left,a personal foul was called on Cadeau. With the chance to win by one point, the Ridgewood Goats failed at their attempt and the Third Grade Hilltoppers took their first tournament.

They are 2 – 2 in the Hoop Heaven 4th Grade League and look forward to more wins.
