A special youth hockey clinic, to be held on Tuesday, January 24th, will be presented by prominent NHL alumnus Willie O’Ree and former Eastern Hockey League Atlantic City

Seagull Art Dorrington in promotion of this year’s AHL All-Star Classic which will take place on January 29 and 30 at Boardwalk Hall. The clinic participants, comprised of students from the Atlantic City based Art Dorrington Ice Hockey Foundation, will learn hockey techniques as well as skills such as teamwork, sportsmanship and commitment which they will be able to practice both on and off the ice. The event is free of charge and will be open to the public.

Prior to the start of the clinic, in recognition and appreciation to Dorrington’s allegiance to the community and hockey career, Boardwalk Hall will rename the building’s ice rink in his honor. The dedication of the “Art Dorrington Ice Rink” at Boardwalk Hall, which includes a proclamation from Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford, will also be part of the day’s festivities.  During the past thirteen years, Dorrington has been very active in his not-for-profit organization, The Art Dorrington Ice Hockey Foundation, which was created as a means to assist the underprivileged youth in Atlantic City by teaching them life skills through the game of hockey.

The brothers of Xi-Rho chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey have announced plans for their 11th Annual Polar Plunge for charity.

This year the event will take place on Saturday, February 11 at the sea wall at east Brigantine Avenue and 13th Street North here at 12 noon. All proceeds from the event will benefit Kappa Sigma’s Military Heroes Campaign. The campaign was designed to honor and benefit the thousands of wounded military veterans who return from active duty.  It focuses, in particular, on providing charitable assistance to the Fisher House Foundation, and the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund which helps provide free housing to wounded veterans and their families for the duration of rehabilitation.

“There is no registration fee to take part in this fun event to benefit our brave veterans,” said Michael Steele, a Stockton student and member of Kappa Sigma.  “We ask all who take part in the event or who come out to watch to help us through their monetary donations. Every donation makes a difference, no matter how large or small.”

Steele said those who are unable to take part in the Plunge, an icy dip in the Atlantic Ocean, may still help by mailing their donations by check or money order to Kappa Sigma Fraternity, Office of Student Development, The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey, 101 Vera King Farris Drive, Galloway NJ 08205.  PayPal donations may be made to ksxrgt285@gmail.com.
