BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Kids of all ages from Berkeley Heights, New Providence and surrounding communities are invited to participate in "Ham Radio Kids Day" on Sunday, Jan. 5 at the Berkeley Heights Recreation Center, 29 Park Ave., Berkeley Heights between 2 and 5 p.m. No experience required.
A chance for kids of all ages to operate a Ham Radio Station and speak with other kids from all over the nation and in Canada, and possibly from all over the world. Licensed Radio Amateurs from NPARC will set up the station starting at noon, and will be available to answer any questions.
"Kids Day is intended to encourage young people--licensed or not--to enjoy Amateur Radio. It gives youngsters on-the-air experience, so they may develop an interest in electronic technology, and in pursuing a ham radio license in the future. It's also intended to give hams a chance to share their stations with their children. Even though the kids get a kick by exchanging their names, towns and their favorite colors with others, they also get a serious lesson in US Geography," as stated by NPARC.
Ham Radio Kids Day is presented by The New Providence Amateur Radio Club serving the Watchung Hills Area. This event occurs twice a year, in January and in June. It is done in cooperation with the Berkeley Heights Recreation Commission and the New Providence Recreation Department, both of which support the functions performed by NPARC.
