Halloween Festivities Fill South Orange Village Center

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The streets of Village Center and Spiotta Park were bustling with vampires, zombies, cowboys and clowns, as people came together to celebrate Halloween.

Many merchants gave visitors treats as they strolled the streets and seemed to be having as much fun as the children.

“Halloween is one of my favorite events of the year in the Village,” said Matt Glass, President of the South Orange Village Center Alliance (SOVCA). “People from all walks of life come together here and show such amazing creativity.  There are so many impressive homemade costumes.  And people get to walk around the Village Center and meet so many of the merchants and see that they are great Mom and Pop operations with people just like them.”

Newly appointed SOVCA Executive Director Bob Zuckerman was on hand to experience his first South Orange event, and said, “There is such a jovial spirit here today in Spiotta Park.  I can’t wait to get to work and meet all the merchants as well as the residents of South Orange.”

As Zuckerman begins his new assignment, this marked the last event for Interim Director Nancy Gould.  “I’m just glad we are getting to celebrate Halloween on Halloween this year,” she said, referring to the previous two years when Hurricane Sandy and a freak snowstorm prevented the Village from holding Halloween festivities on Oct. 31.
