SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ, Jim Pornovets Memorial Golf League -Twin City Pharmacy put on another fine display of power and balance as they defeated Witty's Liquors, 12-8, to maintain their game-and-a-half lead over KC's Korner in a tight American Division race that is now in the home stretch.  At this point, Twin City looks like they're going to be tough to overtake with just three weeks to go in the regular season.

Frank Gaspari led the way for the victors with his 36, Guy Severini was just one stroke higher with a 37, while Jay Coppola and Joe Diller turned in a pair of 38's.  After getting blown away 20-0 by the South Plainfield Funeral Home,Twin City has bounced back with three-in-a-row to take over first place.

Jim Parker of Witty's Liquors made a valiant effort for his squad, finishing with three beautiful birdies to post a sparkling even-par 33, the best round of the night.

Alfie's Boys started the season with a spectacular July 4th fireworks show with five really impressive wins that drew oohs and ahs from the league and made some folks wonder if they could go through the entire season undefeated.  Since then, they have really fizzled and have won only one match of their next seven.  They lost again this week, 11-9, to Unique Sports Accessories to drop to fourth place.

Capt. Chris Dillon showed that he can be pretty sharp playing twilight golf by carding a nifty 2-over 35 to lead Unique Sports to an 11-9 victory. Gene De Carlo conributed a 38 to help seal the win.

Danny Griffin purchased a sufficient supply of Heineken magic elixir to soothe his aching ankle and looked really sharp in posting a lovely 1-over 34.  Bill Mann always seems to bring his A-game and registered a 36 for Alfie's Boys.

2 Buds, 2 Dubes started the season with two wins but only managed two additional victories over the past nine weeks.  They lost another tough one, 13-7, to KC's Korner who got some nice performances from Nick Vetuschi who shot a 37 and from Efrain Solis who carded a 39.

Jeff Orth earned the medal for 2 Buds, 2 Dubes with a 38, Dale Dube had a 39, Mark Van Name shot a 40, and Henry Mancini left a few out there but still came home with a 41.

Over in the National Division, in a key match, McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals edged out their chief rival, the South Plainfield Funeral Home, in a close one, 12-8.

Mark "Mr. Steady" Chichvar wore his lucky canary yellow golf shirt and it worked its magic again as his team pulled out a big win in a critical match.  Kris Krantz came through with a 39 to contribute to the victory.

The South Plainfield Funeral Home got some solid play from Vinny Welch who was 3-over after two holes and finished that way with a sterling 35; Matt Ward, Jr. posted a 37 and Matt Ward, Sr. registered a 39.  Capt. Bob Nilan has ordered four canary yellow golf shirts for his squad for next week's match with matching visors to spark his team to victory.

Lou Pelicchio earned medalist honors with a 40, and teammates Jeff Gross and Rich Pellegrino were just one stroke behind with their 41's as the Italian-American Club clobbered Dirty Harry & Friends,

19-1.

Charlie Oates continued his solid play for Dirty Harry's and put together a 38.

Matt Frederickson of Windows Plus never looked better tee to green and never putted better than he did against Sport & Social firing a 38 to lead his team to a whopping 18-2 triumph.

Scott Mac Donald shot a 39 for Sport & Social in a contest that was really over very early.
