Green Fair of the Chathams Less Than Three Weeks Away!
Friday, September 7, 2012 • 12:34pm
The Green Fair of the Chathams will take place on Saturday, September 22, 2012, rain or shine, at the gazebo at Reasoner Park and at Railroad Plaza North.
The theme of the Green Fair is “What You Can Do to Live a Greener Lifestyle.”
“We’re going to have vendors that sell “green” products as well as ideas to live a ‘greener’ lifestyle,” said John Bitar, Chair of the Green Fair of the Chathams Committee. “There will be food vendors and activities for the kids, things to do as well as things to buy.
Back by popular demand, entertainment will include a show by Rizzo’s Reptiles, sponsored by Investors’ Bank, the Community Band will play, and other musical options are being considered.
Bring your own water bottle to the Green Fair to refill with free, filtered tap water.
“There will be something for everyone of all ages to enjoy” said Councilman Len Resto, the Council liaison to the Green Fair Committee and Committee member. “Pascarella Bros. will have a booth with food for breakfast and lunch.” Resto continued.
Many environmental nonprofit organizations will be on hand to help you learn how to add “green” to your busy modern lifestyle.
A community shredding will again be added to the Green Fair, sponsored by the Green Fair Committee. Residents should bring their confidential and sensitive documents to the shredding truck at Railroad Plaza North between 10:00 A.M. and 1:00 P.M., where they will be micro-shredded, (thus made useless to identity thieves), then recycled.
“The Green Fair will be a Greener Green Fair again this year.” said Cindy Steffens, Chair of the Chatham Borough Green Initiatives Committee. “Measures for energy efficiency, waste reduction, alternative forms of transportation, and support for local economies are an integral part of the Green Fair.”
The Green Fair Committee encourages attendees to leave their cars behind and walk or bike to the centrally-located Green Fair (which out-of-town attendees can reach by train.) The outdoor location minimizes the need for electricity. Recycling containers and composters will be available at prominent locations throughout the Fair. To reduce waste, the Green Fair map and schedule of events will be posted prominently throughout the Fair, but no paper handouts of them will be distributed. All communication about the Green Fair has been done electronically, not in paper form.
