Grant Helps Theater Company Bring Shakespeare to Area Schools

The Investors Foundation has awarded a $2,000 grant to The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey, the state’s largest professional theater company dedicated to the presentation of Shakespeare’s dramatic works. The grant follows funding that the Foundation provided over the past two years.
As in prior years, the grant will help support the organization’s educational touring company, Shakespeare Live!, which performs at more than 110 schools throughout New Jersey and the surrounding regions. The Theatre’s flagship outreach program, Shakespeare Live! presents fully staged performances of Shakespeare’s plays and other classic productions. The program is the only recipient statewide of a National Endowment of the Arts grant designed to bring the works of Shakespeare to a new generation of students. Since its inaugural season in 1997, the company has served nearly half a million students, including more than 26,000 youths in underserved schools.
“This grant will help enable us to bring performances to schools that may otherwise be unable to afford a professionally staged theater production,” explained Shakespeare Theatre Director of Development Molly Dunn.
“We remain grateful to have the friendship of the Investors Foundation,” added Bonnie J. Monte, who has served as the Theatre’s artistic director for more than 20 years. “Their generosity, and that of all the Theatre’s supporters, helps ensure that our talented performers, production staff, and support personnel can continue to offer world-class education and outreach programs.”
