Grace Community Music Announces Season

Dr. Anne Matlack, Artistic Director, is pleased to announce the Grace Community Music 2012-2013 season. These community concerts and special musical services, highlighting fantastic area performers and the Grace Choirs, are celebrating their 16th season. The first event is a free Treble Evensong for St. Michael and all Angels Friday Sept. 28, 2012 5:30 p.m. The short 45-minute candlelight service features the young singers of Grace Church School Choirs ages 7-17 in music by Proulx, Bairstow, and Collins, and hymns and spirituals on the theme of Angels. All are welcome!
Flute Events are a highlight of October, beginning with a FLUTE COACHING DAY with UpTown Flutes on Sun. Oct. 14, 2013 from 1-5 p.m. Students are coached on Junior and Senior High School region solos in a group master class, and join with the professional flute ensemble in a concert at 4 pm ($10). On Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Madison Flutist Susan Glaser performs a free concert featuring works by W.A. Mozart, J.S. Bach, and Georges Enesco, in preparation for her NY Philharmonic audition! Come wish her well, as she is accompanied by Madison’s own Paul Zeigler, piano.
The highlight of the fall is a performance of Garbriel Fauré’s beloved REQUIEM by Grace Church Adult and School Choirs, ages 7 thru adult with Merynda Adams, harp; Eric Stroud, organ; Ruth Zumstein, violin, and Dr. Matlack conducting. This short memorial concert takes place Sat. Nov. 3, 2012 7:30 p.m. with admission by freewill donation at the door.
Sunday December 16 at 3 pm there is a full performance of Vivaldi’s Gloria with Chamber orchestra and the Adult and School Choirs, and Patricia Ruggles, alto. Also featured in that concert: Mark Miller’s Grace Church Gloria, a work commissioned and premiered ten years ago to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Grace Choirs.
2013 events will include An American Wassail with the Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey on Sunday Jan. 13, 2013 at 3 p.m. Drew University’s all-male a cappella group ,36 MadAve, joins with Grace’s teen guys (The “Gargoyles”) and NJYouth Chorus Young Men on Friday Feb. 1, 2013 7:30 p.m. followed by Monteverdi & More with Elise Figa, soprano Sat. Feb. 9, 2013 7:30.
The well-received Friday Lenten Organ Recital Series runs from Feb. 22-Mar.22, 2013 12:15-12:45 p.m., with pedals and keyboard projected on the wall and Lunch following.

Dr. Anne Matlack has a B.A. in Music from Yale University, and a M.M. and D.M.A. in Choral Conducting from University of Cincinnati College - Conservatory of Music. As well as serving as Organist & Choirmaster at Grace Church, she conducts the acclaimed Harmonium Choral Society. She is celebrating her 21st year at Grace church. Grace Church’s choir program explores all styles of high quality music in a liturgical worship setting and follows Royal School of Church Music standards. Grace Community Music was founded by donations at the wedding of Dr. Matlack and Jabez Van Cleef, to showcase local musicians, build a sense of community, and open the church to the greater Morris County audience. .
