BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Summit Hilltoppers and the Governor Livingston Highlanders faced off in boys varsity soccer on Thursday, Sept. 27,  and the Highlanders came away the 5-0 victors in a dominant display. 

Only four minutes into the game, Governor Livingston's Michael Coimbra scored the first goal. Summit had a tough time holding its own against the Highlanders, but was able to lock down the Highlander defense for some time.

On a Governor Livingston corner kick, Summit Goalie Brendan Krain stopped the ball, but it bounced out and found the leg of Christopher Marzo, who scored for the Highlanders.

While Summit tried to play an aggressive defense and contain their offense, at times they were almost too aggressive and Summit player James Holzer got a yellow card for an illegal hit.

At the start of the second half, Highlander Anthony Olivera scored to make the game 3-0 in favor of Governor Livingston. The Highlanders scored another goal a short time later. 

Summit tried to change the tide, but failed and had to continue playing defensively.

 "we didn't come close to playing to our full potential," said Summit backup goalie Nick Zachara. "Hopefully, we will see them again. They are a good team, but we haven't given them a good run for their money yet."

The Hilltoppers were able to take a couple of shots, but none of them went in.

“We had a rough game out there, but we have counties up next," added Zachara. "We have to learn from our mistakes and move forward into the rest of the season.”

Governor Livingston's Anthony Olivera scored the last goal of the game to make the final score 5-0 in favor of Governor Livingston.

Summit is now 5-1-2 on the season, while Governor Livingston is 7-1.
