BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Former Gov. Livingston players and some team parents have created the GL Football Alumni Association to support the legacy of the GL football program.
The association is a subcommittee of the GL Booster Club and has the support of Head Coach Daniel Guyton and the rest of the GL administration, GL Football Alumni Association Chair Adam Perle said.
“I am very supportive of the creation of this association,” Guyton said.
The vision of GLFAA is to create a community of GL football alumni who will support the current program, Perle said.
“This will be done by building a connection between current and former players, as well as by raising funds to enhance the current program,” Perle said. “All funds raised will go directly to the GL football program to enhance the experience through additional player/coach training, team gear, facility support and potentially scholarships.”
Perle said that through GLFAA, the connection between former GL players and current players and coaches will booster the existing legacy of the football program.
“It shows the current players that there is a rich history and tradition and that there are lots of former players that are rooting for and supporting them,” Guyton said.
Guyton is a GLHS alumni and played the position of quarterback and free safety for the Highlanders from 1994-1997. He later became assistant coach at GL from 2002-2008 and is now the head coach.
Any former member of the GL football program can become a part of the association including players, coaches, managers, etc, Perle said.
The GLFAA will have its first official event, an alumni inaugural dinner, on Wednesday, Nov. 27 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the GL High School’s cafeteria.
Food will be provided by Clemente’s Pizza and Café Italiano, whose owner Anthony Clemente is a former Highlander and played with Head Coach Guyton, Perle said.
GL Football alumni are encouraged to register their contact information on the website www.glfootballalum.reunionmanager.com even if they cannot attend the dinner, Perle said.
