BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Highlanders Wrestling Team improved their season record to 13-8 on Saturday following a pair of wins over Butler and Arthur J. Johnson in a tri-match held at Gov. Livingston on Senior Day.

The Highlanders will be graduating nine seniors including captains Joe Colder and Ryan Hoy, RJ Greeley, Andrew Lipnick, Mike Matarredona, TJ McGowan, Tom O'Sullivan, Dennis Sobol and Brian Stearns.  Each of the seniors were announced and joined by their parents for recognition for their commitment to the Gov. Livingston wrestling program.

The focus of the seniors wasn't on the end of their high school wrestling career, but what they have left to accomplish this season. State Sectionals are coming up in the next few weeks.  "It is sad, but we are going to keep going and wrestle well.  We still have a lot of season left, it's not over yet," said Captain Joe Colder.

Ryan Hoy, who is thinking of wrestling in college, is enjoying his senior year, "I can't believe I'm a senior already, it went by way too fast."

Coach Rich Ortega, in his inaugural season as head wrestling coach at Gov. Livingston will miss this group of seniors. "The senior class has done a great job leading the team.  They are great leaders and we'll need someone to step up for next year," said Ortega.

Saturday's match-up was bittersweet for Ortega who faced his former team, Arthur J. Johnson.  Ortega spent the past seven years with the Johnson program and was honored as the Union County Wrestling Coach of the Year last season for his performance on and off the mat.

"I want them [Johnson] to win every other match except for this one.  They are a good team, they are solid.  They have a good group of kids that are coming in next year," said Ortega. "I wish them nothing but the best."

"I was ready to go out there, we knew they [Johnson] would want pay back for taking their coach. So I went out and did the best I could," said Hoy.

Gov. Livingston went 23-5 overall in their two head-to-head bouts, which included a 13-1 mark with five forfeits against Butler for a 77- 3 decision and a 10-4 record with three forfeits against Johnson for a 55-22 victory.

"The win felt awesome, everyone wrestled well it was a team effort. We all put in our two cents and came out on top and won," said Colder.

The Highlanders had 9 individuals finish the day unbeaten, with three of those coming from forfeit wins for Sean Tomlinson (285), Spencer Marke (220) and Matt Hoy (106). Chris Sergio (120, 113), Joe Colder (120, 126), Austin Senkarik (132), Turner Haddad (138) and Ryan Hoy (152) each recorded a pair of pinfall wins  and Mike Materredona (195) recorded a pin and a forfeit.
