BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Gov. Livingston students hosted "Cabaret For A Cure" on Friday, May 9 to benefit Relay for Life in honor of Ken Steifel, the set designer for the Gov. Livingston theater.

The event was hosted by two Relay for Life teams, Daddy's Crew and Daddy's Crew 2, which are made up of students at Gov. Livingston who participate in theater.  This was an extra special night for two seniors, Mukta Phatak and Steven LaMaita.

"I am uniquely proud of this event because it was really student coordinated, we certainly supported them, but they did most of the leg work," said Christine Talarico, teacher and theater director at Gov. Livingston.

Phatak entertained the audience as she introduced each performance. The myriad of talented Governor Livingston students sang songs with piano accompaniment by Joe Elefante.  The chosen songs went along the theme of light, optimism and hope.

The evening opened with "You Are the Light of the World" from the musical Godspell, showcasing the evening's theme. Emma DiMaio's rendition of "No One is Alone" from the play Into the Woods was a dedication to the people battling with cancer.

Katie Wells sang "Finding Wonderland" from the play Wonderland, a song that identifies the need to find your happy place when times get hard.

A highlight of the evening was when Phatak and Abby Warde performed "When You Believe" from the play The Prince of Egypt,  Lindsay Mirabella, Darien Slattery and Ellie Leick sang the lyrics.

Noah Marcus and Trevor Rittman entertained the audience in their comedic performance of "You and Me (But Mostly Me)" from the play The Book of Mormon.

There was not a dry eye in the house when Talarico and Mirabella dedicated "You'll Always Be in My Heart" from the play Tarzan, to their departed co-worker Isadora Seibert.
