BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - The Gov. Livingston girls soccer team shut out Kent Place, 5-0, on Thursday, Oct. 17 at home.
Lauren Jankowski scored an early goal, giving the Lady Highlanders the edge. They dominated the first half with additional goals by Isabella Bjorkeson and Lauren Soranno with an assist by Lyndsay DiStaso.
"We played well, especially early on. We got a lot of goals which was an indication that we got off to a really good start," said Gov. Livingston coach Mike Roof.
DiStaso scored another goal in the second half, and Alice Caballero made a header goal for a final score 5-0.
Kent Place had a lot of attempts on goal. They struggled to get past Gov. Livingston's goalie Rachel Matteram, who had an amazing game. " Well I think we did really well, we could've done better, but we did really well," said Mattera.
"In all fairness, we have some kids that are pretty banged up, some injured and some out," said Roof. He added that new players had meaningful minutes. "Again, I would have liked to see us playing the ball a little bit sooner, but the ball moves faster then we do."
"The first ten minutes we were flat and that's what killed us right there," said Kent Place Coach Tennant. "You know, Mike [Roof] has a great team over there, the way they play and the level they play at. I expected the first ten minutes to be better, but we got better in the second half and at the last twenty minutes of the first half."
