SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD NJ- Gov. Livingston Highlanders used strong defense and perimeter shooting to defeat the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Lady Raiders by a score of 47-42 on Friday night at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School.

The Highlanders (7-6) jumped out to an early 11-0 lead and never looked back. Patrice DiTomasso (18 points and 11 rebounds) and Sara Dilly (11 points and seven assists) led the way for GL.

“We fought real hard tonight,” said Highlander head coach Andy Silvagni. “Scotch Plains-Fanwood is a great team. Patrice gave us an early lead, and we were able to hang onto it.”

The Highlanders were able to hold their double-digit lead for most of the game. The game seemed to be well in hands until the Raiders went on a run in the fourth quarter. The Raiders trailed by 13 points going into the fourth quarter, when a couple well-timed baskets trimmed the lead to four. After the Highlanders added a few free throws, the game was out of reach for the Raiders.

Thabitha Dwunfour of SPF was a dominating force in the paint, gathering 21 rebounds. She gave the Raiders (3-8) plenty of second-chance points, allowing them to keep the game close. Madison Maisel and Dwunfour lead the way for the Raiders on offense scoring 13 and nine points respectively.

The Raiders face Roselle Catholic on Tuesday at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School at 4 p.m.

The Highlanders face Summit on Tuesday at Gov. Livingston High School at 4 p.m.
