SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Despite Gov. Livingston's strong second-half performance, the Highlanders fell to Union Catholic, 57-37, in boys basketball on Saturday.

From the opening tip, the two teams fought a defensive battle. Gov. Livingston had good ball movement but couldn't capitalize on opportunities. Union Catholic controlled the game's momentum and led at half by 17 points, 30-13.

Gov. Livingston started the second half with a new game plan, playing more aggressive and sure footed.  The Highlanders stayed shot for shot holding the Vikings to a three points lead in the third quarter.

The Highlanders' late game surge was not enough to cut Union Catholic's 20 point lead in the fourth quarter.

Ashton Lofton scored a game-high 16 points and had five assists for Union Catholic and Devine Eke had 14 points, three blocks and four steals in the victory.

Patrick Mahoney led Gov. Livingston with 12 points, while Victor Candeloro and Robert Imbalzano each had nine points.

Gov. Livingston will face St. Mary's at home on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.

Union Catholic will face Scotch Plains on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.
