BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - "Goodman's Deli in NJ is outstanding," stated Gary Cahn, who recently went on his fourth annual trip to review eight delis in 36 hours.
The trip took Cahn and three of his long-time elementary school friends to Baltimore, Philadelphia and New Jersey. "Goodman's earned first place for every single item we tasted, except for cole slaw, where it took second place," said Cahn in his website review.
The delis were chosen by Googling "best pastrami" or "best corned beef," and then soliticing feedback on the "Save the Deli" Facebook page.
The taste of the food would be the only item evaluated, ordering the same items as their previous trips--pastrami, corned beef and brisket sandwiches cut in quarters with sides of potato salad, cole slaw and pickles.
Cahn stated that the reviewers loved everything about Goodman's. "It was by far our favorite deli of the trip."
Brisket was awesome - moist, tender and tasty.
Pastrami was outstanding.
Corned Beef had a distinctive taste, a hint of clove.
Redskin Potato Salad - subtle flavor, excellent texture and not too creamy. Considered the best of their deli trip.
"Goodman's is a rare gem of a deli in the NJ suburbs, and it will probably make our 'best of'' trip for next year," stated Cahn.
