PATERSON, NJ - Linebacker Zuri Glover picked off a pass and ran it back 53 yards to give Eastside a dramatic 20-14 victory over Passaic on Saturday.
The scored was knotted 14-14 with less than eight minutes left in the game when Glover came up with his big play.
"The kids never quit and they stuck with it,'' said Eastside Head Coach Jermain Johnson.
The Ghosts jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first half. Sheldon Stuart blocked a punt sand returned it for a touchdown for one Eastside score, while Tymir Rice caught a 43-yard TD pass from Jathon Pincket for the other.
The win was the Ghosts' second in their past three games, after they opened the season with three losses. Johnson said his squad is dominated by underclassmen and is making the kind of mistakes that come with youth. Twice, Eastside fumbled inside its own five-yard line, setting up Passaic's two scores, the coach said.
"We should have won 27-0,'' Johnson said. "It's a learning process every week. But we are making the progress we want to see. They're still learning how to win.''
