Give Back to Mascaro Through the 'Give For The Chief' Blood Drive

After rather humble beginning, working out of his Norristown garage, Francesco A. Mascaro was able to create a trash-hauling empire before his passing last year. Known as “The Chief” to his friends, family and coworkers, Mascaro was known for his giving attitude.
During the month of August, many area locations are hosting a blood drive in his memory, so that the communities that Mascaro gave so much to can give a little back. Since Aug. 5, the corporate headquarters, located in Audubon, has hosted an ongoing blood drive. This week, several area locations will also get in on the act to help drive up the pints collected in Mascaro’s name.
Thus far, the company has a goal of 1,000 pints and nearly a third of the way there.
“[Frank] spent his whole life giving to others,” said the Mascaro website set up for the drive. “In honor of Frank’s giving spirit, The Mascaro Family has organized a blood donation drive of 1,000 pints to help others in need.”
Hosted via the American Red Cross, interested persons can set up a schedule time to give blood by clicking here. Alternatively, several area businesses will host drives through this week to help the cause.
On Aug. 14, the Lower Providence EMS building, located at 101 Hillside Ave., Eagleville, will host a drive from 2 to 7 p.m. No appointment is required.
Also on Thursday, the Audubon YMCA will host a drive at their location, 2460 Boulevard of the Generals.
Several other locations have been set up throughout the Delaware Valley. For more dates and times, check the Mascaro schedule here.
Given all they do for the Methacton Warriors youth football and cheer leagues, the Warriors’ league president encouraged his players, cheerleaders and families to attend.
“Over the years, the Methacton Warriors have had tremendous support from The Mascaro Family,” said Tom Leahan, league president. “Now the Mascaros would like our support.”
Teams were encouraged to attend one of the many upcoming dates to help give back to the Mascaro family by giving blood to the Red Cross. According to the Red Cross, there are five major benefits to giving blood, including:
· Saving human lives
· Free health screening and check-up
· Reduced risk of heart disease
· Burn calories
· Reduce risk of cancer
