LIVINGSTON, NJ – The Livingston High School girls’ varsity soccer team took on Caldwell on Wednesday in search of its fifth win in six tries this season.

Livingston came out strong on its home turf and the ball remained on the Caldwell side for the majority of the first half.  Erica Dippold and Annie Werner each had a goal for the Lancers while goalie Samantha Rothenberger turned away all of Caldwell’s first half shots.

Caldwell appeared to regroup for the second half and posed a much bigger challenge for Livingston.   Alexa Sodano and Jamie Hreniuk both scored for Caldwell, but it was freshman Caitlyn Sugarman scoring her first career goal for Livingston on an assist from Kylie McLaughlin that proved to be the difference. The Lancers held on for a hard-fought 3-2 victory.

Although Coach Raiz was happy with the victory and pleased with the effort in the first half, overall he did not think that the Livingston girls “played as hard as they should have” against this Caldwell team.

In one week, the Livingston girls will take on the undefeated Montclair team that handed them their only loss of the season. They will first face Millburn and West Essex, both teams with losing records.

When asked if he thought his team might look past these games in anticipation of Montclair, Coach Rais said, “We focus on one game at a time. We know we have to play Montclair again, but I think we go one game at a time.”

The Livingston girls will travel to Millburn on Friday, Sept. 27 for a 4 p.m. contest against the Millers.
