WESTFIELD, NJ — Thousands of women arrived in Downtown Westfield Thursday night for Girls’ Night Out, when more than 90 businesses hosted events with discounts, giveaways and entertainment.

“It was pretty incredible,” said Sherry Cronin, executive director of the Downtown Westfield Corporation.

About 2,500 women registered beforehand, representing 178 towns in New Jersey, plus Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New York and Louisiana, according to Cronin. Of those registered, 28 percent live in Westfield.

Watson led by Phil Rinaldi and Michael Doyle of the Michael Craig Band played music outdoors, while chivalrous local male dignitaries and volunteers greeting women and opening doors. The first 1,300 who pre-registered got a complimentary gift from Lord & Taylor and Downtown Westfield Corporation (DWC).

“It’s a lot of fun,” said Carolyn Ann Ryan, owner of Carolyn Ann Ryan Photography, which opened recently at 7 Elm Street.  That evening, the studio hosted vendors representing Wildtree, Matilda Jane Clothing, Thirty-one and Re:Organize.

“It’s great meeting people from the town,” said Ryan. “I saw a lot of new faces. A lot of new people came up.”

Joe Maistickle, owner of Get in Shape for Women in Westfield on South Avenue (across from the train station), said it was the best turnout the boutique fitness studio had seen.

“People are really interested in what we have to offer,” said Maistickle, who set up his table on Elm Street. “It’s really unique. It’s not a gym.”

Daniela Palumbo, owner of Ella Allure Interior Design Center at 220 East Broad Street, said it was by far Ella Allure’s biggest Girls’ Night Out turnout.

“I was able to extend a lot of design advice to the community and visitors and hopefully inspired many women while they enjoyed their night out,” said Palumbo.

“Girls' Night Out was a great night,” said Gerri Gildea, owner of Juxtapose Gallery at 58 Elm Street. The store raffled a pair of earrings and offered a discount to customers that evening.

“People who knew that the store was giving a 20 percent discount came in,” she said.

Free Girls’ Night Out tote bags were sponsored by David Realty Group Residential Brokerage of Westfield. Table Sponsors include Barnabas Health Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Skin Laser & Surgery Specialists of NY and NJ, Advanced Wellness of Westfield, Lord & Taylor and Morgan Stanley (Michael Miller).
