Both the Fanwood Borough Council and Scotch Plains Township Council issued proclamations honoring the Girl Scouts of the USA at their March 19 meetings. The Scotch Plains proclamation of Girl Scout Week was accepted by girls from Daisy Girl Scout troop 40158, while girls from Brownie Girl Scout troop 40982 were simultaneously accepting a proclamation in Fanwood.

In accepting the proclamations girls noted that there are more than one thousand Girl Scouts and volunteer leaders in Fanwood and Scotch Plains. They listed some recent local Girl Scout service projects, including handing out water to runners in the Fanwood 5K race and the St. Bart’s 5K, hosting holiday parties at local nursing homes, and supporting efforts to recover from Superstorm Sandy.

They also thanked Fanwood and Scotch Plains residents for ordering more than 47 thousand boxes of Girl Scout cookies, which are being delivered this week. Council members were presented with some complementary cookies, and all residents were invited to visit Girl Scout cookie booths around town in the next few weeks.

Fanwood-Scotch Plains is one of 138 communities in Girl Scouts Heart of New Jersey Council, which covers 7 counties across central New Jersey. For more information, call (908) 518-4400 or go to http://www.gshnj.org.
