Join Sufi teacher André Bernard for Dances of Universal Peace Harmony & Healing in Movement at Interweave this spring! The Dances of Universal Peace are a powerful, joyous form of interfaith group meditation and prayer. Using sacred phrases and chants, simple music and movements inspired from many spiritual traditions, the dances promote what deeply unites us—one Source, one Essence. Participation, not presentation, is the focus. No musical or dance experience of any kind required. The class meets for four 1st Fridays, from 7:30-9:00 p.m. -- Feb. 3, Mar. 30 classes meet at the Unitarian Church at 4 Waldron Ave in Summit, NJ, and the Mar. 2 and May 4 classes will meet at Interweave’s Summit Center at 31 Woodland Avenue (on the 2nd floor of Calvary Episcopal Church’s Parish Office) in Summit, NJ. The cost per evening is $10.
Take the plunge in self-expression with our supportive group Tasting Life Twice: A Monthly Writing Circle: a monthly morning for writing and sharing writing. Instructor Alison Mazie explains that the adventure of writing requires courage and what Frederick Buechner calls “a certain kind of unguardedness, a willingness to run risks, including the risk of making a fool of yourself.” Each month the class will seek inspiration from a different source. A dedicated time of practice and encouragement from other budding writers will help you hone your craft and make writing a regular part of your life. Sessions are free-standing; you may come to just one, or come to all. The class meets for five 1st Saturdays: Feb. 4, Mar. 3, Apr. 7, May 5, and June 2 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in Interweave’s Summit Center at 31 Woodland Avenue (on the 2nd floor of Calvary Episcopal Church’s Parish Office) in Summit, NJ. The cost is $75 for all 5 pre-paid, and $20 per drop-in.
The truly depressed person cannot be “cheered up” and may, without wishing to, drag others down into the doldrums. In Living with the Blues: Coping Creatively with Depression on Sunday, February 12 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. learn the difference between the “blues” and serious depression, a bio-chemical as well as emotional condition. Instructor Robert Corin Morris will speak from his own experience of over a decade of depressive episodes about survival tips for both those who find themselves in the strange and bleak land of depression, and for those who love them and seek to help. He’ll discuss the major causes for depressive illness, and both medical and alternative approaches to relief. Suggestions for exercise, diet, and helpful meditations. For friends and family, too. Workshop will be held at Interweave’s Summit Center at 31 Woodland Avenue (on the 2nd floor of Calvary Episcopal Church’s Parish Office) in Summit, NJ. The cost is $20, $15 Members, and Free for Teens.
