In lieu of just sharing their treats this past holiday season, the 150 students at the non-profit German Language of Morris County (http://www.glsmc.org) sold traditional German advent calendars to family and friends and shared a portion of the funds with The Seeing Eye in Morristown, which breeds, raises and trains guide dogs to help the visually impaired remain independent.  The students presented a $200.00 check to Ms. Beate Amos, a puppy raiser for The Seeing Eye during the School’s annual Open House Book & Bake sale.

“In addition to working together every week to learn German our tight-knit community hosts a variety of cultural activities such as singing at the annual Christmas Market in Sparta and selling Advent Calendars,” said Principal Michaela Greco.  “When Beate told us about raising Nonnie and the important work of The Seeing Eye here in Morristown, we immediately asked the students if they wanted to help this organization and they wholeheartedly agreed.”

Just as the German Language School instills independence and self- confidence through language learning, The Seeing Eye (www.seeingeye.org) helps blind and visually impaired people maintain their dignity and independence with the support of trained guide dogs. The Seeing Eye breeds and raises puppies to become Seeing Eye dogs, trains Seeing Eye dogs to guide blind people, instructs blind people in the proper use, handling, and care of the dogs, and conducts and supports research on canine health and development.
