In their first out of state meet of the year, the Garden Gators from Giant Gymnastics of Lafayette competed under the pressure of a larger meet.   Florida in February, hosted by Sports Fitness and Fun in Florida, New York, held three sessions on February 17t, the Gator team was split in three squads.  To show camaraderie, some of the girls spent a good portion of the day at the other sessions, cheering their teammates on.

The day began with the younger copper Gators.  Caroline Dietz, an 8 year old gymnast from Lafayette, earned numerous medals for her work, including an All Around 5th Place medal.  In her second meet of the 2013 season, she has shown her prowess in Vault and Balance Beam, earning a second round of medals for these events.  Eight year old Meagan Ward of Fredon also earned herself a second metal for Balance Beam, bringing home 3rd place. Rounding out the morning was nine year old Newton resident, Morgyn Witt.  Witt also showed the judges her skills as she medaled again this year in Balance Beam, adding a 3rd Place to her 2nd from last month, as well as adding a 4th Place medal for her Floor routine.  The Copper Gators earned a 5th Place Team banner, which now is proudly on display in the gym.

During the second session, Gianna Macones, a new gymnast to the Garden Gators, excelled as she earned a First Place in Balance Beam, two 2nd Places for her Vault and Floor routine and a 7th Place on the Uneven Bars.  Macones’ performance for that session gave her a high all around score of 34.1, which earned her the 2nd Place All Around Trophy for the Bronze competitors that day. Ending the days’ competition, the Silver Gators Kelly Hurley, Christina Chernati and Kaitlin Peccia earned medals as well, and finished the day by earning a second banner for Giant Gymnastics of Lafayette- a 5th place Silver team banner- which hangs next to the one the Copper Team earned.
