Chatham Brownie Troop 94992, second graders at Washington Avenue School recently invited EMT Dave Elliott of the Chatham Emergency Squad to teach a class on First Aid to help them earn their Brownie First Aid Badge.

Dave instructed the very attentive students in some of the basic techniques and benefits of first aid including how to splint an injured leg.  He explained what to expect when calling 911 in an emergency by simulating a 911 call.  The girls role played and became familiar with the typical questions a dispatcher might ask.  Mr. Elliott assisted the Brownies in assembling first aid kits to take home and three extra kits the troop donated to local shelters.

Judging by the smiles on their faces, it appears that Dave and his students had an enjoyable, as well as an enlightening class.

Conducting classes is another service the volunteers of the Chatham Emergency Squad offer the citizens of The Chathams, in addition to providing emergency medical and trauma support and transportation.
