WEST ORANGE, NJ - Brendan Patrick Tevlin, 19, of Livingston, N.J., will be laid to rest on Tuesday, July 1 following an 11:00 am funeral mass at Saint Philomena's Church, 386 South Livingston Avenue, Livingston. A wake will be held on Monday, June 30 in the auditorium at Seton Hall Preparatory School, 120 Northfield Avenue, in West Orange from 3:00 - 9:00 pm.

Following the mass, Brendan will be interred at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.

Brendan was fatally shot on June 25, 2014 in the vicinity of Walker Road and Northfield Avenue. He had been playing video games at a friend's house on Florence Road and stopped at the South Orange Seven Eleven before heading home to Livingston. Police say Tevlin was shot and killed in his family's Jeep Liberty and the vehicle moved to an apartment complex at 275 Northfield Avenue.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office released video surveillance footage of two young men, one a light skinned Hispanic, running in the vicinity of the crime at the time it occurred. They are being sought for questioning and the Prosecutor's Office is asking to public to assist in identifying them. The investigation is active and ongoing.

The community has rallied around the Tevlin family, providing meals, raising funds at lemonade stands, and holding remembrance services, including a celebration of Brendan's life at the Shillelagh Club on June 27 featuring bagpipes and step dancing.

Brendan Tevlin's death has shattered the communities of West Orange, Maplewood, Livingston, and West Essex. The Tevlin family is a local Irish family with deep roots in the community. Brendan graduated from Seton Hall Prep in 2013 and had just completed his first year at the University of Richmond. He had played Lacrosse at the Prep and was part of the Lacrosse Club at UOR.

While at Seton Hall Prep he was a member of the Student Council and an outstanding student maintaining a 4.0 grade point average for all four years; a member of the National, Math and Spanish Honor societies; was president of Gaelic Club and a member of the Ambassador's Club, and Knights of Setonia. He also served as a Eucharistic minister.

Tevlin was an avid surfer and spent summers down the shore with his family in Lavallete. He was also a bagpiper with the Essex County Shillelagh Pipes & Drums.

Brendan is survived by his parents, Michael and Allison Tevlin; sister Michaela, and brothers Brian and Sean; grandparents Barbara and Neil McNulty of Livingston, N.J. and Thomas and Carolyn Tevlin of Caldwell, N.J., and Lavallette. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Brendan's name to Seton Hall Prep, 120 Northfield Ave., West Orange, N.J. 07052.
