Friday Lenten Luchtime Recitals at Grace

Organists Eric Stroud, and Anne Matlack will once again offer lunchtime organ meditations throughout Lent, beginning Feb. 22, and running through March 22. The recitals begin at 12:15 following brief (5 minute) noonday prayer, and end at 12:45. Drinks and dessert are provided after each performance. Local gourmet sandwich shop, Madison’s On A Roll, will provide a selection of wraps and sandwiches for $6 purchase after each concert. The concerts are free and open to the public.  The organ console and pedals will be projected onto the wall for better audience viewing.

On Feb. 22, Assistant organist Eric Stroud presents “Baroque Banquet.”  March 1, Brian Harlow, organist at St. Luke’s Church, Gladstone, will play "Tryptych" by Ian Hare, and other works.

March 8, Madison’s John Pivarnik, organist at St. Peter’s in Essex Fells will play Lenten Hymn Preludes. March 15 “Eric Stroud and Friends” present works for organ plus instruments including recorder and clarinet.

The Helen E.J.Thomas Memorial Concert will feature fine area vocalist Patricia Ruggles, Anne Matlack, organ, and a violinist in “The English Legacy of Holst & Vaughan Williams.”

Helen E. J. Thomas (1917-2006) was Grace Church’s organist for 50 years, designed the Cutler Memorial Organ, and began the Lenten recital series.

Eric Stroud, assistant organist, is in his 11th year at Grace Church, and a talented improviser as well as recitalist, currently studying with Brian Harlow.  As well as her celebrating her 21st  year as music director at Grace Church, Dr. Matlack is Artistic Director of the acclaimed Harmonium Choral Society.
