Fresh Perspectives for Millburn Board of Education

As a Wall Street banker, Wharton graduate, and devoted mom of the Millburn community with two children attending Hartshorn (and a third joining them soon), I am bringing my experience and forward-thinking to the Board of Education by running for a three-year term on Millburn’s Board of Education.
I’m running for the Board of Education to take on the strategic issues facing the district. I will make an immediate impact on the Board by combining fresh perspectives, a strong background in finance and a track record of results. I am a New Jersey native with a family history of community leadership in education.
Here’s why I am uniquely qualified to serve on the Board of Education:
1) I have a long-term interest in the Millburn School District and an immediate interest in its current operations and implementation of the Strategic Plan. My three children (2nd grader, Kindergarten and Preschool) will spend a total span of 20 years attending Millburn schools through 2029, ensuring I take a long-term view of the district's needs.
2) I have an incredibly strong background in finance. I have over thirteen years of experience working on Wall Street, as a Director at both a bulge-bracket investment bank and as a Partner in a start-up middle market investment bank. I am a Wharton graduate with a dual concentration in Finance and Management. I served on the Wharton Dean's Advisory Board for four years and served as the Board president. The majority of roles/responsibilities of the School Board is finance-driven; budget planning, teacher contract negotiations, project financing. The composition of the Board today illustrates a lack of much-needed financial expertise that I will bring. Moreover, beyond just the ability to analyze financials, I have the ability to articulate their significance, to fellow Board members and our equity holders, all of us, and to work collaboratively.
3) I am deeply committed to Millburn schools and NJ public education. I grew up in Marlboro, NJ and am a proud product of the NJ public school system. I am the daughter of a NJ public school veteran; my mother was a former PTO President, who later was an elementary school teacher who taught in NJ for twenty years. I am deeply rooted in our community.
After I took leave from Banking to raise my three children in 2012, I began working as a passionate and dedicated volunteer on behalf of the District's children. I began as a volunteer at Hartshorn and soon became Treasurer of the ASE program. I serve as the Vice-Chair of the JCC PTO in West Orange. But, I still needed more.
I have attended nearly every Board of Education meeting for over two years. I serve on the District's Strategic Planning/Implementation Committee as part of the Resources and Facilities committees, which is dedicated to assessing the District's facilities to determine our students' needs, and how to prioritize those needs with limited resources. My role on the Resources committee gave me the opportunity to apply my financial experience, work ethic and positive outlook to our school district, and served as the impetus for my candidacy.
My commitment to Millburn is unparalleled -- I’ve met with every current Board member (and several former members) and the Administration; I have attended every school’s PTO meetings this Fall to get closer to the issues that each school is facing. I have the capacity and am working hard for our District already. I am making an informed decision – serving our community on the Board of Education is how I want to devote my time, my fresh perspective, my collaborative spirit and I am uniquely qualified to do so. My demonstrated commitment means that I will be able to make an immediate impact on the Board once elected.
I am committed to ensuring that our students continue to thrive; teachers have the resources to do their jobs effectively; our schools are managed efficiently; our school parents and parent organizations (PTOs and Education Foundation) feel listened to and communicated with; and our Millburn community feels represented. We live in an exceptional community. I believe we achieve an outstanding and innovative education system through an engaged parent community, open and transparent communication, and a commitment to the best possible outcome.
I look forward to earning your support and serving Millburn Township.
