MT. HOLLY, NJ - The National Weather Service has issued a freezing rain advisory for western portions of Union County, including New Providence, Plainfield, Berkeley Heights, Scotch Plains and Fanwood, for Sunday night.

Temperatures have been hovering in the low 30s on Sunday evening, making conditions particularly hazardous due to precipitation that wavers between rain, sleet and a frozen mix. The National Weather Service advisory says, "a glaze of ice will make travel treacherous, especially on untreated and elevated surfaces."

A trace of ice accumulation is forecast in western Union County. Travelers are urged to proceed with extra caution due to slippery road conditions which have already led to numerous accidents in the area throughout the morning and afternoon on Sunday.

Temperatures are forecast to rise through the night on Sunday, meaning the precipitation should eventually change over to all rain before the area braces for sharply colder weather that may include temperatures below zero by Tuesday.
