ELIZABETH, NJ – First Place artwork from the 2013 Union County Senior Citizens Art Contest is currently on display at the Freeholders Gallery, located on the 6th floor of the Union County Administration Building at Elizabethtown Plaza. The exhibit, which is sponsored by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders and the Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs can be seen on weekdays from 9:00AM-5:00PM through August 21st.

The Union County Senior Art Show is held in Elizabeth every year from early June to mid July and is open to professional and non professional artists 60 years or older. Two of this year's participants in the exhibit from Scotch Plains are non professional artist Marjorie Picard who specializes in pastels and professional artist John Church, who specializes in watercolors.

"These senior artists have diverse backgrounds" said Freeholder Bette Jane Kowalski, liaison to the Cultural Heritage Programs Advisory Board. "Some are members of art associations who meet regularly to paint together with a hired teacher while others are self-taught and make art by themselves".

For more information, contact Teya David, the curator at the Union County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs by telephone at 908-558-2550, or by emailing her at culturalinfo@ucnj.org.
