Fourth Annual St. Patrick’s Day Bash Puts the 'Fun' in Fundraising

FANWOOD, NJ - It’ll be a great day for the Irish and for some local community organizations, too, on Saturday, March 8 when Fanwood's fourth annual St. Patrick's Day Fundraiser takes place at the Fanwood train station.  

The party with a purpose from 12:30 to 9:30 p.m. will benefit Children's Specialized Hospital and the Scotch-Plains Fanwood Music Boosters Association.

Tickets are available in advance for $7 at Oh' Brian's Pourhouse, Oh' Brian's on the Green, Seafare Chippery, Scotch Plains/Fanwood Raiders Booster Club, and Be Craftful. The price is $10 at the door. All children under age five are free.

“We try to make this a community event and involve as many people as possible. It keeps getting  bigger. We hope to have 4,000 people attend this year,” says Brian Walter, owner of Oh' Brian's Pourhouse, who has organized the fundraiser for the past four years. 

The rocking Irish party will have hot food, Domestic and Irish beers, including Guinness and Smithwicks, the popular Irish rock band Bloody Callan, DJ Brian Kennedy, bagpipes, three different Irish Step Dancers, tricky trays with prizes provided by local merchants, and children's activities – all under a huge heated tent.  Local officials, the Emerald Society and Sons of St. Patrick will also participate.

Be Craftful will engage children in St. Patrick’s Day-themed crafts and provide glitter tattoos.

“We always try to participate in community events.  Last year, we had just signed a lease and had the opportunity to be involved in the celebration as our first event in Fanwood.  It’s something of an anniversary event for us,” said Amy Boroff, owner of Be Craftful.  “We felt that we could provide entertainment for the children and also help by donating a gift basket for the silent auction.”

Nick’s Pizza will help prepare the corned beef and cabbage – a fact that has event organizer Brian Walter a little nervous.   

“We’re cooking the corned beef and using our own recipe.  We got rave reviews last year – even from members of Brian’s family,” said Paul Watterson of Nick’s Pizza, who is donating 20 percent of the food sales to the charities.  “We only make it one day a year, so Saturday is your chance to get it.  Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until 2015.”
