FANWOOD, NJ – At last night’s Fanwood Recreation Commission public meeting, the first detailed plan for improvements to Forest Road Park was presented.  Proposed improvements include a 3/8th mile perimeter path and a field irrigation system. The 8 foot wide paved perimeter pathway will blend in with the existing boundaries of the park and will wind through evergreen hedges and trees.

Located on Forest Road between Pleasant Ave and Woodland Ave., the park has a playground, two baseball fields, a basketball court, a street hockey field, and, in the future, will have a skatepark.

The plan, as presented by Evan Stone of T&M Associates, is just one step the township is taking to improve the public parks in Fanwood.

Also discussed at the Recreation meeting, under business updates, was a recap of the 3rd annual 5K race and Fun Run at LaGrande Park this past Sunday. The day was a huge success. More than 180 youngsters and family members ran the Fun Run, and there were over 350 people who ran the 5K.

The committee went on to review the plans for the Halloween parade and costume contest on October 31st. The event will start at 5:30 at the Fanwood Library parking lot. At 6:15 the costume parade begins, ending at LaGrande Park field, where the costume contest will take place. There will also be a jack O’lantern contest, with prizes awarded by a witch!
