NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - At about 7:35 p.m. Tuesday evening, the North Caldwell Police and Fire Departments were called to the scene of West Essex High School after a fire alarm went off.

Police Chief Mark Deuer commented, "the valve blew off a 3,000 gallon hot water heater last night. To the best of my knowledge, it was the drain valve on the bottom which blew off, filling the school with steam and water. There was approximatey two inches of water in the hallway near the gyms. It was all cleaned last night by the police and fire departments."

Student extra-curricular activities, which were occurring at the time, were moved over to the Middle School Building. There were no injuries reported.
