WESTFIELD, NJ — According to the Westfield Police, on March 16 and into the early morning hours of March 17 a DWI checkpoint was conducted on South Avenue at the border of Westfield and the Borough of Garwood in conjunction with the Garwood Police Department.
The checkpoint resulted in the arrests of five individuals. Two people were arrested for DWI—Marlene Andrews, age 49, of Roselle and Mark Boyle, age 26, of Westfield. Three were also arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance—Allington Stevens, age 42, of Piscataway (additionally charged as an unlicensed driver), Christian Landry, age 19, of Westfield and Chad Johnson, age 29, of Piscataway.
Westfield Police Chief David Wayman had warned the public the week before that there would be a crackdown on drunk driving over the holiday, saying in a press release, “Drunk driving is dangerous, deadly and against the law and it will not be tolerated in Westfield this Saint Patrick’s Day weekend.”
Wayman praised the efforts put forth by the members of the Westfield and Garwood Police Departments in conducting this DWI checkpoint and working together to keep the roadways of both communities safe.
