MORRISTOWN, NJ -  Recently, New York Giant Steve Weatherford, along with Next Level Training and the Shauger Group, provided 1000 fire detectors to residents in need in Newark and Morristown.

A horrendous fire in Newark on Father’s Day led to this generous donation.  That unfortunate event brought awareness that every resident isn’t financially able to provide fire detectors for their homes.

The New Jersey Office of the State Fire Marshal website states, “working smoke detectors can cut the risk of death in a residential fire by 40-50%.”

The website also explains how new construction requires the installation of an A/C hard wired smoke alarm with battery back-up.

Existing construction requires that a working battery operated smoke detector be placed on each level of the dwelling.

Thanks to the donation, 1000 more residents in both Newark and Morristown will live in safer environments.

According to Robert Flanagan, Fire Chief of Morristown, “People should check the batteries in their smoke alarms twice a year.”
