Fire Department Responds To Brush Fire Located Off Sky Top Drive, Scotch Plains

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - The Berkeley Heights Fire Department was called by a Berkeley Heights resident at approximately 3 p.m., responding to reports of a brush fire that appeared to be in the Deserted Village section of Berkeley Heights. The Incident Commander was Deputy Chief Anthony Padovano.

Upon locating the fire aproximately 600 feet off Sky Top Drive in Scotch Plains, the Scotch Plains Fire Department was notified to respond.  

Other departments that responded to the scene to assist include: New Providence, Watchung, Stirling, as well as the N.J. Forest Fire Service.  

The fire encompassed several acres and was brought under control at approximately 4:30 p.m. 

"It could have been much worse except for the quick response of our fire fighters as well a units from Scotch Plains, New Providence, Summit and Stirling," said Mayor Joe Bruno.

The Berkeley Heights Police Department was on the scene as well as the Berkeley Heights Volunteer Rescue Squad, who was administering vitals.

"Union County Fire Mutual Aid dispatched a Springfield Ladder, Westfield Engine as well as a Summit Engine to cover the Township in the event of another call," said Jim Hopkins, Berkeley Heights Fire Department Battalion Chief.  "The cover assignment responded to one fire alarm activation on Springholm Drive."
