Fifth Grade Students attend a Meet and Greet

Thursday, August 28, 2014 • 4:02pm

Fifth grade students and their parents  had the opportunity to meet their new grade teacher, Ms. Sharon Fisher at an evening Meet and Greet recently at the Valley Road School in Clark.  Since this position was vacant in June Ms. Fisher’s incoming class did not have a chance to meet her at the annual Move-Up Day prior to summer break.

Superintendent of Schools Kenneth Knops, Director of Curriculum Ed Grande, and Valley Road School Principal Joseph Beltramba facilitated the evening, in a room packed with students and their parents.  Superintendent Knops thanked everyone for their support prior to explaining the extensive interview and selection process to find Valley Road’s newest fifth grade teacher.  He then introduced Ms. Fisher to all those in attendance, highlighting her professional and personal achievements.

Ms. Fisher is a 2014 graduate of The College of New Jersey, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, earning a quality cumulative grade point average of 3.7. While at The College of New Jersey, Ms. Fisher was the recipient of the New Jersey STARS Scholarship for Academic Achievement and was inducted into the Phil Theta Kappa Honor Society.   Ms. Fisher gained experience as a Student/Intern Teacher of Grades Three, Four, and Five.

After Knops’ introduction, Ms. Fisher presented a colorful and animated Power Point Presentation highlighting her background, educational philosophy, past educational experiences, hobbies and interests, and contact information.  This was then followed by Ms. Fisher chatting individually with the fifth graders and their parents.

In commenting on the Meet and Greet, Superintendent Kenneth Knops remarked, “The evening was an outstanding success, with our incoming fifth grade students and their parents having the opportunity to meet their teacher.”  He concluded the evening by saying, “Ms. Fisher will be a wonderful asset to both Valley Road School and the Clark School District.”
