Fee Free Day at Thomas Edison National Historical Park
Monday, January 9, 2012 • 10:26am
Thomas Edison National Historical Park will be joining national park sites around the country in celebrating the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday with a fee free weekend. Entrance fees will be waived for all visitors to the park on Saturday, January 14 and Sunday, January 15, 2012. The park is closed to visitors on Monday, January 16.
“Winter can be a wonderful time to visit Thomas Edison National Historical Park,” says Assistant Superintendent, Terri Jung. “We have fewer people visiting the park and a fee free day is a great opportunity to discover new programs, new stories or for those who have never visited before, discover what the park has to offer.”
During the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday weekend, the park will also be waiving fees for its audio tours. The standard audio tour directs visitors on a self-guided tour of the Laboratory Complex, providing background, context, and information about the park. The audio tours are also available in German, Spanish, and Japanese and a family version can also be accessed. The usual charge for the optional Laboratory Audio Tour is $5.
Thomas Edison National Historical Park will be offering additional fee free days throughout 2012, including April 21-29 (National Parks Week), June 9 (Get Outdoors Day), September 29 (National Public Lands Day) and November 10 and 11 (Veterans Day weekend.)
Visitors wanting to visit Thomas Edison’s home, Glenmont, must first obtain a car pass and tour tickets from the Laboratory Complex Visitor Center at 211 Main Street. Tour tickets for Glenmont are limited and are only available on the day of the tour.
Thomas Edison National Historical Park is a National Park Service site dedicated to promoting an international understanding and appreciation of the life and extraordinary achievements of Thomas Alva Edison by preserving, protecting, and interpreting the Park’s extensive historic artifact and archive collections at the Edison Laboratory Complex and Glenmont, the Edison family estate.
