WEST ORANGE, NJ - Following routine testing by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), nSpired Natural Foods, Inc., has voluntarily recalled specific lots of Arrowhead Mills Peanut Butters, MaraNatha Almond Butters and Peanut Butters, and other private label nut butters packaged in glass and plastic jars due to potential salmonella contamination.

According to the FDA website, "Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis."

As of today, nSpired has received four reports of potential illnesses caused by the specific products listed.

nSpired Foods issued a statement, noting, "nSpired Natural Foods, Inc. is committed to producing the highest quality products and our top priority is the safety of our consumers. For this reason we are initiating this voluntary recall of the products below as a precautionary measure."
