FANWOOD, NJ - Unofficial measurments place the morning's snowfall at about 11 inches in Fanwood, with another round in the forecast for Thursday night, and yet more snow expected overnight Friday into Saturday.

There could be an additional 3 to 5 inches of snow coming Thursday night (putting snow totals from the storm at potentially up to a foot and a half), as well as light freezing rain and wind gusts to 35 mph, all of which could well result in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District's sixth snow day of the winter on Friday and a further erosion of what had been scheduled as a full week of spring break in April.

That "break" will have dwindled to just two days off in April if the district is forced to cancel classes on Friday.

Fanwood Borough Hall offices and municipal court have been closed all day on Thursday.

In a message to borough residents, Fanwood Chief of Police Richard Trigo said:

(We) encourage all residents of Fanwood and the surrounding towns remain off the roads if possible so
that our first responders and can safely respond to any emergency situations and our DPW can plow the streets. Only travel in an emergency. Severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring.
that will make travel dangerous.  Only travel in an emergency. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.

To report potentially dangerous issues contact the Fanwood Police Department at 908-322-5000. For a true emergency, please call 911.
