SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ -- Mallory Banks of Fanwood served as a 2014 Autism Awareness Junior Ambassador and had a Bake Sale and Raffle to raise moneyfor the fourth year in a row, for Autism Awareness month on Saturday, April 26.
Her goal was to surpass the $2,600 she raised in 2013. Due to the great publicity, amazing local merchants, community, family and friends, she raised $3,500 this year and will be donating the money to Autism New Jersey in honor of her brother Ethan Banks and all people affected by an autism spectrum disorder.
The outpouring of support from local merchants was astounding this year. Mara's Cafe and Bakery donated a portion of their cupcakes sales for an entire week. Nick's Pizza donated 20 percent of their sales during the entire day of the bake sale and Frank's Auto Body donated a portion of their sales as well. Cindy Smith Dance Studio donated one class per week for an entire season ($450 value). Amazing raffle prizes were also donated by the following merchants: Ruby and Jenna, Fabio's, Tinga, JCC of Central NJ, Darby Road, Cool Vines, Westfield Digiplex Rialto, Guillotine Salon and Spa, Diva Nail & Spa, Reiki session with Catherine Glastal, Be Craftful, Ginger Sushi, Rosie’s Wine Bar, Double Dipper, The Turning Point, Roman Boutique, Fanwood Bagel, Trattoria Bel Paese, Cosimo's Italian Restaurant, Lidia's Cuban Kitchan and Castle Bootery.
In 2010, this bake sale started as a small little event on a soccer field raising $500. Over the years it has blossomed into a community event and over the last four years, Mallory and her friends have raised a total of $8,600 for Autism NJ. The 2014 Autism Bake Sale was an exciting day and the Banks Family would sincerely like to thank everyone who came out to support the cause.
