FANWOOD, NJ - Contests, food, entertainment, vendors and classic cars are just a few of the things being offered at Fanwood’s 19th annual Fanny Wood Day on Sunday, Sept. 28. The festivities start at 11 a.m. and run until 5 p.m. on South Avenue at Martine Avenue.

The celebration will begin with more than 60 classic cars expected for the ever popular car show portion of the day, to be held in the Scotchwood Florist parking lot on South Avenue. Residents can enjoy various food contests, including an ice cream eating contest sponsored by the Double Dipper Cafe, a pizza eating contest sponsored by Nick’s Pizza and Deli, a pie eating contest sponsored by Mara’s Café and a buffalo wings contest sponsored by Oh’Brian’s Pourhouse. Other contests include hula hoop and water balloon contests sponsored by The Goddard School and a "Best Dressed Pet Parade" sponsored by K-9 Resorts.

Elite Properties will sponsor a live band called Fine Line Duo at 1 p.m. and a DJ will be making announcements and playing music throughout the day.

The fourth annual Fotos of Fanwood photo contest is open for submissions. Interested photographers can contact David Blechinger, at david@davidblechinger.com, for more information or check out the Fanny Wood Day page on the fanwoodnj.org website. Mounted and framed entries, no smaller than 5x7 and no larger than 11x14, should be submitted by Friday, Sept. 19, at 3:30 p.m. to Fanwood Borough Hall, 75 North Martine Ave., Fanwood.  This contest is sponsored by Unity Bank, and judging will take place Friday, Sept. 26, at Mara’s Cafe on South Ave. Winners will announced at Fanny Wood Day.

“The great thing about Fanny Wood Day is that it’s more than just a street fair and we encourage everyone to come out and enjoy this great hometown experience,” said Fanwood Mayor Colleen Mahr.  “It is things like this that made us one of theTop 10 towns for families in New Jersey.”
