Friday, February 3, 2012– FAMILYConnections, one of Essex County’s leading social service nonprofit organizations, has recently been selected by the New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) as the Fiscal Sponsor and lead agency to launch an ambitious Essex County Coalition to reduce underage drinking and drug abuse.

“We are thrilled to have been awarded this incredible opportunity,” says Paula Sabreen, FAMILYConnections’ Executive Director.  “In planning the Coalition, we have had tremendous support from local youth, parents, school staff and other community leaders.  This program represents a new service area for us and we’re excited to both broaden and deepen our connections throughout the County”.  The focus of these prevention efforts will be on environmental change involving schools, parents, law enforcement, community providers, liquor stores and bars.   Anyone interested in learning more about Coalition activities should contact FAMILYConnections’ Chantiel Alexander at calexander@familyconnectionsnj.org

FAMILYConnections is a non-profit counseling and family service agency with more than 30 specialized programs for all ages from infants to seniors.  The agency delivers research-based therapeutic services to improve the quality of life throughout the community by reducing child abuse, drug abuse, gang involvement, and crime; by increasing social and coping skills, school success, and employability; by healing emotional pain and helping individuals and families become strong and independent.
