The South Plainfield Knights of Columbus Council #6203 hosted a Communion Breakfast on July 27th and handed out their end of year council awards. During the breakfast Past Grand Knight Brian Cargill presented the 2014 Knights of Columbus Family of the Year award to Bob and Candy Longo and their children Phillip, 22 and Gina, 20
The Longo’s received this award for their outstanding support of the Knights Youth, Community, Family and Church activities throughout the year.
Every Memorial Day the Knights place flags on deceased members graves at Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Bob and his son Philip helped the council locate all South Plainfield Knights of Columbus members’ graves and make an electronic version of the members grave sites, which has made placing the flags allot easier and saved allot of time.
Bob and his children, Philip and Gina have also supported the Somerset Patriots Snack Stand fundraisers for many years. Bob and Candy also help decorate Sacred Heart Church with Christmas decorations
One of the biggest things Bob and Candy have supported the Knights with recently is they have taken over the ordering of the food and supplies for the Sacred Heart Church Lenten Fish Dinners this past year, this is such a huge task and undertaking without their support the Fish Dinners would not have continued.
Bob and the Longo family also have supported the following Knight events over the years the OLC Feast of Saint Anthony Carnival, the "Don't Cook Friday" Spaghetti dinners and Knights of Columbus Special Citizens Drive run each April by doing multiple shifts which is used to collect money for mentally handicapped citizens.
As you can see the Longo’s are a perfect choice for the Knights Family of the Year. When you see Bob and Candy, congratulate them on this very worthy accomplishment.
