Fair School Funding Plan

Frank J. Festa, Jr.

Saturday, January 28, 2012 • 2:12pm

Dear Mayor:

We would like to call your attention to Senator Michael Doherty’s legislation, The Fair School Funding Plan, which should be of vital interest to you.  As you know, the current system we have for determining state school aid is unfair to many of the students in NJ and has resulted in high property taxes for our communities.  Under Senator Doherty’s plan, every student would receive an equal amount of state school funding.  Mountainside would receive $7,627,377 more in state school fundingThis would result in lower property taxes!

Senator Doherty will be giving a presentation of his Fair School Funding bill on February 21, 2012 at the Scotch Plains Town Council meeting which will be held in the Municipal Building, 430 Park Ave., at 7:30 p.m.  Since the meeting is open to the public, you may want to send  a representative to learn more about this important legislation.  Scotch Plains and many other townships have passed resolutions supporting the Fair School Funding Plan.  We hope you will consider doing the same.

We hope to see you, or one of your representatives, on February 21st.  Thank you so much for your time and interest.

Sincerely,

Scotch Plains Fanwood Tea Party

Regards, Frank J. Festa, Jr.
