Expanding Civic Awareness in Summit
Wednesday, October 16, 2013 • 10:35am
Summit Common Council is holding a public goal-setting meeting for 2014 on October 29.
I recommend that starting in this planning cycle, Council should ask every committee and commission to establish goals for next year, give a brief progress report in July, and a final report at the end of the year.
There are almost 30 committees and commissions listed on the City’s website. I believe residents would appreciate insight as to what these groups do and how they relate to the City’s overall goals. Publishing these goals and results on the City’s website will allow residents to be more informed on City progress. For residents who have either an expertise or interest in the committee subject areas, this may stimulate interest to volunteer for these committees.
This is one way to broaden outreach and create more civic awareness in our community.
