WEST ORANGE, NJ - The Essex County Turtle Back Zoo will be having a special Groundhog Day Event this Saturday. Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. will be the Master of Ceremonies on hand to see if Essex Ed, the zoo’s resident groundhog, will predict six more weeks of Winter or forecast an early Spring.

The Zoo is located at 560 Northfield Avenue in West Orange.  The 11am event is included in regular zoo admission, and will take place rain or shine.

According to folklore, if it is cloudy when the groundhog emerges from its burrow, winter-like weather will soon end. If it is sunny and the groundhog sees its shadow, winter weather will continue for six more weeks.  Credit: Essex County
